The Risks of Chemotherapy for Cervical Cancer
Chemotherapy for cervical cancer has been very common in medical field. Doctors use this for treatment to the patients. In chemotherapy for cervical cancer, drugs are used to kill cancer cells. The drugs are given in order to destroy the cancer cells. In chemotherapy for cervical cancer, it is commonly use cisplatin which is often given in combination with radiotherapy other chemotherapy for this cancer drugs. The drugs are usually given intravenously (by injection into a vein). This therapy of chemotherapy for cervical cancer is often arranged when the radiation therapy or surgery will not be effective in treating the cancer. This therapy combine radiotherapy and it is usually called as chemo radiation. For advanced cancer, this therapy is given when the cancer has spread to other parts of body or if the cancers come back after the radiotherapy. On the other hand, the therapy for advance cancer is sometimes stopped due to avoid the side effects. Chemotherapy for cervical cancer is held to treat larger tumors that are cramped to the cervix or those that have spread locally.

1. Lowered production of blood cells
This effect will cause the patients easy to get infection, tire easily, anemia. This happens because the drugs are working to destroy the cancer cells in human body. At the same time, they reduce the cell in blood.
2. Effect on the kidney
Besides affecting the blood cells, chemotherapy will also affect the kidney since the use of drugs to treat cancer of the cervix. The kidney can be permanently damaged because of the drugs unless the treatment is stopped.
3. Loss of appetite
Patients usually lose their appetite after chemotherapy for cervical cancer. The patients’ mouth will be sore.
4. Hair loss
This is a very common risk of chemotherapy for cervical cancer. Patients do not need to worry about this. Their hair can grow back when the chemotherapy has finished. It may take 3-6 months. The risks of chemotherapy for cervical cancer cannot be avoided; those matters can only be treated well due to the recovery of patients’ health.
